Painful Conditions

(The following is a quoted excerpt, pages 107-110, from the Book The Great Health Heist © by Paul Rosen J.D.,L.Ac. Published by Warren Publishing, Inc.)

Few trials in this life are as disruptive as the appearance, and continuation, of pain. Be it frequent, severe, chronic or sudden, any type of pain immediately brings us to our own personal ground zero; it calls to mind our distant childhood, when life was lived in absolutes of black and white, happy or sad, joyful or fearful, painful or pain-free.

When pain appears in any body part, like the head, neck or back, or joints like shoulder, elbow, wrist or fingers, hips, knees, ankles or toes, whether or not these conditions are labeled as sciatica, arthritis, migraines or fibromyalgia, we become instant Neanderthals, forgetting our capacity for logic and reason, and act out of that most basic and primal humanoid reaction: relief.

In this state of "temporary insanity," we will grasp at any straw to relieve our pain.  Liquid, powder, solid, capsule, whatever it takes:  If the label gets our attention with snappy colors and the face of a smiling, pain-free person and promises us "speedy relief," we'll take it!

And, much like those early cavemen and cavewomen, we immediately start "hunting and gathering" the nearest pain remedies.

Try watching less than an hour of television at any time of the day or night and count the contents of the few dozen commercials you see.

No doubt a solid portion of those advertisements are for "fast," "quick" or even "instant" relief of a variety of pains.

The same can be said of our grocery, convenience, department and especially our drug stores.  How many aisles – not shelves, but aisles - are reserved for "cures" for our pain?  From aspirin to vapor rubs to portable heating pads to quick tabs to headache patches to oral toothache remedies to cushions to ease our foot pain, there truly is a "pill for every ill."

Naturally, your pain is "Big Business" to our friends in traditional medicine, in general, and to the pharmaceutical companies, in particular.  According to the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO), "Overall, while the pharmaceutical market doubled to $145 billion between 1996 and 2000, the painkiller market tripled to $1.8 billion over the same period."

And according to the DEA, " ... the increase in production of painkillers can be linked to the misuse or abuse factor.  Although there is no precise statistic on how many persons misused or abused prescription painkillers, it is estimated that in 1999, four million Americans over the age of 12 used prescription pain relievers, stimulants or sedatives for 'non-medical' reasons."

As always, this chapter (from book The Great Health Heist) is in direct response to this distressing phenomenon.  I want to show you the alternative strategy for whatever kind of pain you're feeling.  Don't become a statistic and fall into the pain-medication trap.  After all, there's a reason they're called "medications" and not "cures."  (A more appropriate term might be "bandage" because all they really do is cover up the pain so that you can find some temporary relief.)

Nutrition Response TestingSM offers more than temporary relief.  This exciting new technology actually (1) identifies the root cause of the problem and (2) provides a personal health improvement program that works.  When you know better, you do better.  Nutrition Response Testing helps you know better so that you can do better.
